Ideals
are like the stars: we may never reach them; but
like the mariners of the sea, we chart our course by
them.
People
are always blaming their circumstances for what they
are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people
who get on in this world are the people who get up
and look for the circumstances they want, and, if
they can't find them, make them.
It is a paradoxical
but profoundly true and important principle of life that the
most likely way to reach a goal is to be aiming not at that goal
itself but at some more ambitious goal beyond it.
No one wants to learn
by mistakes, but we cannot learn enough from successes to go
beyond the state of the art.
