Research

   ·   Successfully implemented my senior project entitles “Implementation of Frame-Based Semantic Representation for Natural Language”. Two semesters were scheduled to complete it. The coding is done using CLIPS (C Language In Production Systems) programming language developed by NASA.

   ·   Successfully Finished a Master Thesis entitled “Learning Continuous Functions Using Decision Tree Learning Algorithms” in the field of Machine Learning, the implementation in done with C on Unix AIX environment on May 2001.

 

Work Experience

Sep 1993- date

Software Systems Analyst/Programmer, Information Technology Center (ITC), King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, K.S.A.

   ·   Mainly responsible for developing web based applications using the following technologies: ASP, IIS, Access, SQL server, Active directory and CDONTS. (1999-date)

   ·   Mainly responsible (with a group of four) for maintaining and updating KFUPM Library Management System called DOBIS/LIBIS written in PL/I, and running on IBM MVS Mainframe.

   ·   Successfully implemented database migration of KFUPM Library system (as part of a one-year migration project) from DOBIS/LIBIS version 1.4 to version 3.0.

   ·   Gained excellent knowledge on using MVS/TSO on MVS/XA, ESA and CICS 2.2 running on IBM 3090 and S390 machines.

   ·   Initiated and implemented a new project to produce most of DOBIS/LIBIS reports on PC under Microsoft Access instead of using VSAM files on the Mainframe, which increased work effectiveness, preciseness and saved time.

   ·   Initiated and implemented a web interface to KFUPM library system (DOBIS/LIBIS) using ASP, ODBC and SQL server.

   ·   Effectively designed, supported, and maintained KFUPM main library internal network (LAN) and its connectivity to the University backbone, including 50 PC’s, 4 CD servers, 6 400-CD changers, 2 NT servers and one Novell server.

   ·   Effectively participated in teaching many short courses provided by ITC, including: Microsoft SQL Server Administration, Introduction to Computing and PC’s, Introduction to Windows 95, 98 and its Applications.

   ·   Effectively participated in implementing KFUPM network expansion projects.

   ·   Successfully presented many seminars on Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

   ·   Initiated and heavily involved in the implementation of the idea of ITC Awareness Day, which is, an annual 2-day activity demonstrating ITC services.

   ·   Positively involved in preparing and analyzing many RFP’s and many committees like: Public Awareness and Public Events committee, Standardization committee.

   ·   Implemented an excellent department web page, which is considered as a template for other departments, and outstanding online web version of the ITC monthly news letter “ITC In-Focus”.

·         Library Web Catalog Search: a web-based system that allows public search for the university libraries. Data is downloaded from the mainframe system (DOBIS/LIBIS) then a Data warehouse is built using SQL server. Full-Text indices are used to search text fields. Technologies used:  ASP, MS Access, MS IIS, MS SQL.

·         Guest House Reservation System: a web-based system to keep full information about Guest Houses, their inventory and reservation schedule. Technologies used: ASP, MS IIS, and MS Access.

·         Research Database: a web-based system to keep full information about researchers and their research including: researcher profile, projects, equipments and publications. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, MS SQL Server and CDONTS.

·         Computer Allowance Committee workflow: a web-based system that takes input from a faculty member, then uses a specific workflow to route his input to the department chairman, then the dean, then the committee. It includes three different modules for Administration, Faculty members, and committee members. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, IBM DB2, and CDONTS.

·         Employee Activity Tracking System: a web-based system to keep full information about employees activities like: attended conferences, training, meetings, research (from the research Database) and committees (from the Committee Management System). The system includes three modules: Administration module, normal user and public (Faculty and staff members) module. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, IBM DB2, and CDONTS.

·         Committee Management System: a web-based system to manage Standing and Ad-hoc committees for both the academic departments and administrative departments of the University. The system includes three modules: Administration module, system user and public (Faculty members) module. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, IBM DB2, and CDONTS.

·         Online Pay-Check: a web-based system to display the employee pay-check slip in details. The system includes three modules: Administration module, system user and public (Faculty members) module. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, IBM DB2, and CDONTS.

·         Online Phone bill: : a web-based system to display the employee phone bills in details. The system includes three modules: Administration module, system user and public (Faculty members) module. Technologies used: ASP, MS Active Directory, MS IIS, IBM DB2, and CDONTS.

·         Survey System: a set of web-pages that can be adjusted to any public or private (closed) survey. Each survey includes the survey questions page, and a quick analysis page. Technologies used: ASP, MS IIS, and MS Access.

·         University Library System Data Migration: Heavily involved in migrating the University libraries database from the legacy (DOBIS/LIBIS) system to Horizon System (SQL server, Windows 2000 based system). Technologies used: PL/I programming language, USMARC, MS SQL Server
