1500 BC  Egyptian Ebers Papyrus first describes diabetes (see the album)
400 BC Susruta records diabetes symptoms and classified the types of  diabetes. Charaka then  refined this work in 6AD.
10 AD Celsus developed a clinical description of diabetes
20 AD Aretaeus coins the term diabetes.
1869 Langerhans described clusters of cells (islets) looked like lymph nodes in the pancreas.
1889 Von Mering and Minkowski observed that diabetes could happen when an animal's pancreas is removed.
1922 Banting and Best ( professor and his student ) obtained and purified islets of Langerhans from an animal pancreas, injected its material (insulin) into a diabetic animal, and find a fall in blood sugar level.They won Nobel prize for this discovery .
 
The Ebers papyrus (c. 1550 BC) contains descriptions of clinical states of polyuria.
